Renzo Boggio Couto (Lima, 1990) is a visual artist and industrial designer. He studied Industrial Design at the Faculty of Art and Design of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and holds a master's degree in Ceramics from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of the Basque Country. He lives and works in Lima.
His work, mostly ceramic objects, moves between product design and the expressive side of materials. Either way he looks for the same thing: pieces that engage the people who use them and carry a poetic, playful or critical message.
For Renzo, the ceramic process is a sequence of living states: clay changes shape and is transformed by heat. He works closely attentive to how the material behaves and uses it to build a language of his own.
He also likes to question the idea of the "untouchable" ceramic piece. That's why he designs moving, articulated objects that sometimes play with risk and suggest another way of living everyday life.
He has been working in the craft for around ten years and has taken part in exhibitions and competitions; his Aríbalo Set was shown at the Tigullio Design District through Lima Design Week. Today his work lives at RenzoBoggio/Estudio in Miraflores: a shop, a café and a workshop space where the objects can be seen, touched and used.
